Obituary: Paul Dudley Derounian

Paul Dudley Derounian, 71, Manhattan attorney and Vietnam War Veteran, died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 27, at his summer home in Westhampton, NY. Mr. Derounian is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Wickersham and his four-legged loves Jack, Starr and Skye. 

 

A lifetime resident of New York, Derounian was born May 31, 1943 in Glen Cove. He attended local schools and graduated from Syracuse University in 1965. While at Syracuse, Paul was elected VP of his class where he also participated in ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt.  Paul took an academic deferment from active duty and entered Fordham Law School, where he was elected president of his class.

Obituary: Philip Snyder

Philip Snyder, 80, of Hallandale Beach, Fla. and Shelter Island passed away May 22, 2014 from complications of heart and lung disease. He was born in Chicago to Sam and Betty Snyder, who soon moved to Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, where he and his sister spent their young years. They moved to Manhattan for high school.

 

He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1955 where he met his future wife, Sally Fisher. Right after college, he was drafted into the Army for two years and sent to train with the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY, before being assigned to Augsburg, Germany. His career as a salesman spanned 40 years working with his father, creating ladies’ accessories, and moving on to a similar company in the Empire State Building for the rest of his career. Phil and Sally raised three children in Sea Cliff and spent wonderful summers on Shelter Island. Phil is survived by his wife, Sally, his sister, Linda Snyder Malamy, his children, Peter and Sherri Snyder, Ann and Patrick Swart, David Snyder, and grandchildren, Jared and Noah Snyder, and Phillip Swart.

 Olivia C. Lohrius, 66, of Wallingford, VT, died Friday, Aug. 8 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 30, 1948 in Astoria, the daughter of Daniel and Grace (Cola) D’Angelo. Mrs. Lohrius graduated from Locust Valley High School in 1966. She married Alan Lohrius on Aug. 10, 1948.

Dr. Wladimir Zezulin, a resident of Glen Cove, and Palm Coast, Fla., died at his home in Glen Cove on Aug. 7, 2014. He was born on May 11,1923 in Irshava (near Mukachevo), Czechoslovakia. His father, Jakow Zezulin, was a White Russian émigré officer and a judge in Czechoslovakia. His mother, Nina Shelestove (neé Moroz) was raised in Lviv and was a court secretary. He went to German schools in Czechoslovakia and began medical school there. He graduated from Boston University Medical School in Boston, Mass. in 1952. Dr. Zezulin was a radiologist at the Department of Radiology at Lahey Clinic in Boston (now Burlington, Mass.) and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He wrote articles on medical research and was a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. He helped many Russian émigrés and often arranged their medical care.

Vincent James Broccolo, age 88 of Tavares, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 26. He was born on December 15, 1925 in Locust Valley. He worked for many years at A&P in Port Washington. Vincent was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWll. He was a member of the Italian Club of Lake County.
