Obituary: Maureen Verdon
Maureen Verdon, long-time resident of Glen Cove, and a friend to many, sadly passed away last week after a serious, although mercifully short-lived illness. Many in Glen Cove knew Maureen; her lilting British accent, hearty laugh and wise-cracking good humor were unmistakable. Born and raised in London to Irish parents, she spent most of her life in Glen Cove. Some remember her from the Powers Chemco company, others knew her as the sassy waitress at the old Delicious Pizza on Forest Ave., where she waitressed for 14 years. She delighted in the innocence of children, and although childless herself, she happily watched generations of Glen Cove families as they grew up. She ingratiated herself to people of all ages, because she possessed high energy, a “can do” attitude and a youthful exuberance. Maureen also had a definite sense of right and wrong, and she was always ready to fight for anyone who had been somehow treated unjustly. One would always be glad to have Maureen on one’s side.
